Talks Held with Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources on IOFS Membership

Taking advantage of being in Baghdad, Republic of Iraq, to participate at the 36th Session of the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent (ICIC), on 2nd March 2023, Ambassador Daulet Yemberdiyev, Director of the Country Operation Department at the Islamic Organization of Food Security (IOFS), was received by His Excellency Mr. Aun Ziab Abdulla, Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Iraq to transmit greetings of His Excellency Prof. Yerlan Baidaulet, the IOFS Director General, to exchange views on ways and means to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The productive discussions with the Iraqi dignitary were of particular importance in the context of the standing invitation for the Republic of Iraq to kindly consider joining the IOFS as a full fledged Member State. The two sides agreed that the visit would be serve as catalyst for the membership process to undergo new relevant developments in coordination with other relevant Iraqi stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Trade.

Separately, the IOFS delegation attended the closing ceremony of the 36th ICIC Session, which, inter alia, considered and approved all documents that considered in the two previous days, including the Final Report and Resolutions. Additionally, the Meeting decided for a vote of thanks to the Iraq Red Crescent Society for its generous hospitality and all logistical arrangements made available for all participating ICIC Member States, Institutions, and partners.
