Astana, Kazakhstan - On 8 April 2025, the Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Batyr Rejepov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Kazakhstan, at the IOFS Headquarters in Astana.
The meeting focused on strengthening Turkmenistan’s engagement with IOFS, recognizing its valuable contributions as an Observer State. Discussions highlighted Turkmenistan’s support for IOFS humanitarian operations, particularly its facilitation of aid delivery to Afghanistan, and active participation in key agricultural programs, including wheat resilience and food security reserves.
Ambassador Aryn welcomed Turkmenistan’s intention to become a full Member State of IOFS, outlining the associated benefits such as decision-making rights, eligibility for governance structures, and priority access to IOFS programs and capacity-building opportunities. The parties also reviewed the accession procedure and upcoming IOFS General Assembly to be held on 1–2 July 2025 in Astana.
The IOFS Secretariat expressed appreciation for Turkmenistan’s continued interest and collaboration and encouraged the appointment of national focal points to support coordination on joint initiatives.
The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment to advancing food security and agricultural development across the OIC region.
