Astana, Kazakhstan – 27 March 2025 - The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) hosted a meeting with the FAO Locust Team to discuss transboundary pest management and strategies to enhance food security across Member States. This meeting reflects the ongoing collaboration between IOFS and FAO, building on previous engagements and a shared commitment to addressing agricultural challenges.
During the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of cooperation in managing pests such as desert locusts and other plant quarantine pests that threaten agricultural production. Discussions focused on identifying regional challenges, exploring joint initiatives, and strengthening capacity-building efforts.
IOFS highlighted its Transboundary Pest Control Program, which aims to improve early warning systems, promote sustainable pest management practices, and facilitate knowledge sharing among member states. FAO representatives shared insights from recent projects and reinforced the importance of aligning efforts to mitigate pest-related risks.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue joint efforts in pest control, capacity building, and sustainable agricultural development, ensuring better resilience and food security across the region.
