Chairman of the Senate Maulen Ashimbayev held a meeting with Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security Berik Aryn. The parties discussed the tasks of overcoming modern challenges in the field of food security and promoting sustainable development of the country's agro-industrial complex.
As Maulen Ashimbayev emphasized, food shortages and hunger are among the most pressing issues on the global agenda. According to the United Nations, more than 340 million people worldwide suffer from food shortages, and about two million are on the brink of starvation.
In this context, in the context of modern geopolitical tensions and environmental threats, the activities of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, created on the initiative of Kazakhstan, are of key importance.
"President of the country Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev noted that ensuring food security is a strategic task for Kazakhstan. In this regard, the Islamic Organization for Food Security plays an important role in solving global food issues. We highly appreciate and support the Organization's initiatives to provide assistance to countries affected by the humanitarian crisis, including the people of Afghanistan," Maulen Ashimbayev emphasized.
During the meeting, it was noted that, on the instructions of the Head of State, systemic measures are being taken to provide state support for agriculture and provide the population with affordable and high-quality food. Strengthening the country's food independence is also in the center of attention of the Senate of the Parliament.
The interlocutors also discussed mechanisms for cooperation between Central Asian countries to develop common approaches, given the similarity of agroclimatic conditions, environmental problems and economic ties.
In addition, during the meeting, the Speaker of the Senate informed his interlocutor about the results of meetings with religious leaders in Bahrain and invited Berik Aryn to take part in the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which will be held on September 17-18, 2025 in Astana under the title "Dialogue of Religions: Synergy for the Future."
