Participating countries in Rome are shedding light on host of important issues, including the role of trade in securing diverse foods to ensure global food security in times of crisis, climate changes and food resource prices, in addition to the extended humanitarian crises in Yemen, Sudan, Afghanistan, Syria and other countries. The agenda also includes promotion and development of technological and digital innovations in the agricultural fields, in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
With Qatari delegation led by H E the Minister of Municipality, the 43rd edition of the FAO Conference is expected to produce a number of important decisions and recommendations related to global food security and food crises around the world.
On the invitation of the United Nations Interim Commission on Food and Agriculture, representatives met in Quebec on 16 October 1945 to sign the Constitution of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which provides for “a Conference of the Organization in which each Member Nation and Associate Member shall be represented by one delegate”. The Conference provides a vital platform for leaders, experts and stakeholders from around the world to engage in discussions focused on food security, agriculture and sustainable development.
Qatar lays special emphasis on food security strategy and is operating several projects in this regard including the electronic food safety system “Watheq” by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). The electronic system is a food control process based on standard operating procedures subject to international accreditation controls (ISO 17020) through three electronically linked systems. These include controlling imported and exported food, food in the local market, and the electronic management of food analysis laboratories. MoPH adopts the most effective and integrated electronic systems, aiming the provision high-quality services to enhance the health and well-being of the community.
