The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have jointly introduced the Integrated Biosecurity Index (IBI), a comprehensive tool measuring biosecurity levels across plant and animal health, food safety, and the environment. Developed through collaboration, the IBI encompasses six principles, 25 criteria, and 128 sub-indicators, offering a thorough assessment framework. The initiative aims to foster knowledge exchange and facilitate global adoption of the IBI, potentially revolutionizing biosecurity assessment worldwide. Her Excellency Mouza Suhail Al Muhairi highlighted the UAE's commitment to food security and praised ADAFSA's success in developing the global IBI. The workshop, attended by experts from various disciplines, focused on refining the index and enhancing biosecurity assessment processes. Dr. Markos Tibbo of the FAO lauded the collaboration and emphasized the IBI's significance in managing biosecurity risks effectively. The initiative is expected to contribute to sustainable development goals and promote resilient production and consumption patterns.
