The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan is working on adapting digital solutions for analyzing, forecasting, and modeling floods based on leading international practices. After reviewing the experience of developed countries, the Ministry has selected the TALSIM system (Germany) and Delft-FEWS (Netherlands). These methods will be integrated into a single system to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of flood forecasting. The system performs analysis using hydrological and meteorological data, such as cloud cover, humidity, and precipitation. Currently, data from the Esil River basin is being incorporated into the system. Notably, experts from the Netherlands, who developed the system, will soon visit Kazakhstan. They will work with Kazakh specialists to demonstrate how the system can be adapted to local conditions, considering the region's specifics and needs. “In developing the system, we focused on countries with extensive experience in flood forecasting and prevention. By using the German TALSIM system and the Dutch Delft-FEWS, we decided to implement a pilot digital tool for flood forecasting and modeling. Utilizing these solutions is an important step in forecasting and preventing floods,” said Aslan Abdraimov, Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
