Clermont-Ferrand, France – October 10, 2025 - A delegation from Kazakhstan, led by Mr. Bakdaulet Yerkhanov, Program Manager of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), actively participated in the Livestock Summit 2025 held from 7-10 October 2025 in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The Summit brought together global experts, breeders, and institutions to discuss the transformation of livestock systems for sustainable food security.
The Kazakhstan delegation included Dr. Bolat Seisenov (Chairman, Asyl Tulik), Dr. Botagoz Kulzhanova (Director, Scientific and Educational Center Qazyna), Dr. Kairly Omashov (President, Union of Sheep Producers of Kazakhstan), and Mr. Alikhan Kelesbayev (Representative, National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center – NASEC).
Throughout the mission, the delegation engaged in a series of meetings and field visits organized by the French development program FASEP, in close collaboration with INRAE, the French Livestock Institute (Idele), and breeder associations representing Île-de-France, Lacaune, and other key French breeds. These interactions offered valuable insights into France’s advanced approaches to breeding, genetics, and livestock management.
A special workshop, prepared by FASEP, showcased the diversity of French local breeds and introduced operational models of cooperative breeding, value chain integration, and collaboration between farms. The President of the Livestock Summit, Mr. Jacques Chazalet, held a dedicated Q&A session for the Kazakh delegation, discussing opportunities for bilateral cooperation, technology exchange, and capacity development in the livestock sector.
Representing IOFS, Mr. Bakdaulet Yerkhanov delivered a presentation to international participants from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) region, introducing the IOFS Livestock Development Program. His presentation outlined IOFS’s strategic efforts to advance sustainable animal production, veterinary health, and climate-smart livestock systems, while strengthening cooperation among OIC Member States and global partners.
As part of the field component, the delegation visited several exemplary farms and breeding stations across the Auvergne region, including the Lacaune sheep farm, Roman sheep farm, Aubrac beef cattle farm, Blanche du Massif Central breeding center, and the ovine genetic station Paysat-Bas/FEDA Expé. These visits provided first-hand exposure to advanced breeding technologies, animal welfare practices, and genetic evaluation systems successfully implemented in France.
