IOM and IOFS Hold Introductory Meeting to Advance Institutional Cooperation
19 December 2025

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) convened an introductory virtual meeting to advance institutional cooperation and identify practical avenues for joint engagement.

The meeting followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by Ms. Amy Pope, Director General of IOM, and H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of IOFS, during the IOM Director General’s visit to the IOFS Headquarters in Astana in May 2025, underscoring the shared commitment of both organizations to closer collaboration.

Senior representatives from IOM Headquarters and its Regional Offices in Bangkok, Cairo, Dakar, Nairobi, and Vienna, together with IOFS leadership and technical teams, participated in the discussion.

Opening remarks by Mr. Serhan Aktoprak, IOM Chief of Mission in Kazakhstan, and Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, IOFS Chief Multilateral Relations Officer, highlighted the strategic importance of translating the MoU into concrete cooperation.

Participants exchanged brief overviews of their respective mandates, strategic priorities, and regional engagement, including IOM’s Global Strategic Plan 2024–2028 and IOFS’s core food security programmes. Discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration, notably joint resource mobilization, research and knowledge exchange, and coordination at global and regional levels.

The meeting concluded with agreement on next steps to advance structured and results-oriented cooperation between IOM and IOFS.
