Tashkent, Uzbekistan - 12 May 2025 – The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), in collaboration with COMSTECH - OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation (O'ZTTSA), and the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), has launched a training course on “OIC/SMIIC Halal Products Standards and Testing.”
This comprehensive training, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, brought together representatives from 10 OIC Member States, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkiye, Pakistan, Uganda, Tajikistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan. It aims to enhance the understanding and application of halal standards among participants, providing a platform for sharing best practices in halal certification, food safety, and product testing across various sectors, including food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, Assistant Director General of IOFS, emphasized the importance of ensuring halal compliance and maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and transparency in halal products. He highlighted the critical role of the Healthy, Halal, and Safe Food Ecosystem Program under IOFS in promoting halal trade and building the capacity of Member States.
During the technical sessions, Dr. Shakhlo Atabaeva of IOFS introduced the Healthy, Halal, and Safe Food Ecosystem Program, which seeks to strengthen the capacity of Member States in ensuring safe and compliant food systems. Her presentation covered key aspects of food safety, digital technologies, and sustainable practices, encouraging participants to adopt best practices and collaborate on future initiatives.
The training program covers various aspects of halal standards, including food safety, testing methods, certification processes, and regulatory frameworks. Participants will gain practical knowledge and skills to ensure that halal products meet global quality standards and consumer expectations.
IOFS remains committed to enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices among its Member States. This training course is part of IOFS’s broader efforts to strengthen technical expertise, promote halal trade, and support compliance with international standards across the OIC region.
