Giza, Egypt - 15-16 September 2025 - The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), under the OIC Strategic Commodity – Rice Program, continues its mission to empower smallholder farmers, reduce post-harvest losses, and promote sustainable food security across Member States.
On September 15–16, 2025, IOFS, in partnership with the Agricultural Research Center (ARC) in Egypt, held a Capacity-Building Workshop on Post-Harvest Handling, Storage Management, and Loss Reduction Techniques for Rice Farmers in Giza, Egypt. Experts from Egypt, Malaysia (MARDI), and Iraq shared best practices and innovative technologies with ARC extension providers and farmers from Kafrelsheikh.
Dr. Hamed Safuan, Director of the Engineering Research Center at MARDI, introduced Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for harvesting machinery and solar-powered solutions to reduce post-harvest losses.
Participants visited milling companies, farmers, as well as laboratories and storage facilities, and engaged with operators along the rice value chain, exploring Egypt’s progress in processing, growing, and storage.
Through these initiatives, IOFS fosters cooperation among OIC research centers, enhances capacity, promotes best practices in agricultural production, and works collectively to ensure food security and sustainability for all.
