Agadir, Morocco – 4–5 November 2025 - The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), in close collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests of the Kingdom of Morocco, facilitated a high-level study visit for a Beninese delegation to the Souss-Massa region, aiming to strengthen agricultural cooperation and share Morocco’s successful experience in modern irrigation, crop production, and export systems.
Over two days, the Beninese experts and officials explored innovative irrigation practices at the Regional Directorate of Agriculture of Souss-Massa, visited modern greenhouse farms showcasing localized irrigation and fertigation, and toured the DUROC agricultural exploitation and conditioning station, a model of excellence in the packaging, quality control, and export of horticultural products.
The program also included visits to ONSSA laboratories (LRAR Agadir) to understand Morocco’s phytosanitary control systems, INRA research facilities focusing on irrigation and horticultural innovation, and ONCA for an overview of agricultural extension and farmer support programs. The visit concluded with a presentation at ORMVA-SM on the region’s hydro-agricultural networks and irrigation infrastructure .
This activity was conducted under the umbrella of the Africa Food Security Initiative (AFSI), launched by IOFS to enhance agricultural resilience, productivity, and value-chain development across the African continent. Through AFSI, IOFS promotes South–South cooperation, technology transfer, and institutional partnerships that strengthen member countries’ capacities to achieve food self-sufficiency and climate adaptation.
