Islamabad, Pakistan | October 2026 — The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) participated in the ANSO–COMSATS–TWAS International Conference on “A Sustainable Future for All Living Species on Planet Earth,” held on 13–15 October 2026 in Islamabad, bringing together leading scientists, policymakers and international organisations to advance sustainable development and scientific cooperation.

Representing IOFS, Dr. Memduh Ünal, Director of Programmes, delivered a presentation titled “Optimizing the WEFE Nexus for Climate-Resilient Agriculture: A Framework for South-South Cooperation and Food Security.” He highlighted the diverse food security challenges facing OIC Member States and underscored the importance of the Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus in supporting integrated, climate-resilient agricultural policies and investment.

The presentation also showcased IOFS initiatives in digital agriculture, artificial intelligence and sustainable water management, demonstrating how innovation, early warning systems and knowledge sharing can strengthen resilient food systems across the OIC region.

During the mission, Dr. Ünal visited Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and COMSATS University Islamabad, where discussions focused on disaster risk reduction, scientific innovation and institutional cooperation. The exchanges highlighted valuable opportunities for sharing expertise on climate resilience, food security and sustainable development among OIC Member States.

IOFS's participation reaffirmed its commitment to advancing South–South cooperation, connecting science with policy, and promoting integrated solutions that strengthen sustainable food systems across the Islamic world.
