IOFS Participates in the Joint PPR & FMD Roadmap Meeting for the ECO and West Eurasia Regions

Dushanbe, Tajikistan – 11-13 November 2025 - The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) participated in the Joint Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) and Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Roadmap Meeting for the ECO and West Eurasia regions, held from 11 to 13 November 2025 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The event, co-organized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the European Commission, and hosted by the Government of Tajikistan, brought together national veterinary authorities, international organizations, and regional experts to strengthen coordination for disease control and eradication. IOFS was represented by Mr. Bakdaulet Yerkhanov, Program Manager for Animal Development.
 
In its statement, IOFS reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing animal health systems across OIC Member States and emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, capacity building, and One Health approaches to address transboundary animal diseases that threaten food security. During the mission, IOFS held productive bilateral discussions with key stakeholders. Pakistan expressed readiness to align future activities under the IOFS Animal Development Programme with its national veterinary priorities.
KazBiopharm, a leading Kazakh manufacturer of vaccines and diagnostic systems, explored export opportunities to OIC countries, while discussions with Syrian representatives focused on potential cooperation on FMD, lumpy skin disease, and rabies vaccines, including possible humanitarian vaccine support. FAO’s PPR Coordinator, Ms. Duriya Charypkhan, proposed joint IOFS–FAO collaboration on PPR sero-monitoring in Central Asia in 2026, and Syrian delegates expressed interest in IOFS support for training of trainers (ToT) in veterinary health and laboratory systems.
 
IOFS reaffirmed its full support for the regional roadmap process and its readiness to mobilize expertise and partnerships to strengthen veterinary health, disease surveillance, and sustainable livestock systems across the OIC region.
