Doha, State of Qatar | 15–16 October 2025 – The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) participated in the 6th Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers (ICLM), held under the esteemed patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the preparatory meeting of senior officials.
Convened under the auspices of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and hosted by the Ministry of Labour of the State of Qatar, the Conference brought together representatives from over 50 Islamic countries, international organisations and leading experts, under the theme “Local Experiences, Global Achievements: Success Stories in the Islamic World,” to deliberate on enhancing labour cooperation, social protection, and workforce development across Member States.
The IOFS delegation joined discussions during the Senior Officials Meeting and Ministerial Session, contributing to the exchange of views on employment, vocational training, and the evolving role of agriculture in job creation and sustainable development.
IOFS also reaffirmed its commitment to close cooperation with the OIC Labour Centre, following the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two institutions in July 2024 during the 16th UN–OIC Coordination Meeting hosted by IOFS in Astana. The partnership focuses on capacity building, rural employment, and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the OIC geography.
The Conference concluded with the signing of the Statute of the OIC Labour Centre and the adoption of the Resolution of the 6th Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers, which includes a specific provision recognizing IOFS’s mandate and encouraging its continued engagement.
The Resolution recommends that the IOFS, in collaboration with the OIC Labour Centre and other relevant OIC institutions, continue to support Member States in launching initiatives to generate employment opportunities in the agricultural sector, particularly in rural areas, and to promote agricultural entrepreneurship programmes that enable workers to transition from wage labour to enterprise ownership and management.
The 6th ICLM underscored the importance of promoting decent work, skills development, and inclusive economic growth across the Islamic world. The Conference concluded with the signing of the Statute of the OIC Labour Centre and the adoption of a resolution outlining future cooperation frameworks, with the next session to be hosted by the Republic of Iraq in 2027.
