IOFS Participates in SB 62 to Advance Climate-Resilient Food Systems and Strategic Investment for OIC Member States
25 June 2025

Bonn, Germany – June 2025 - The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) actively participated in the 62nd Session of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB 62) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held from 16–20 June 2025 in Bonn, Germany. The session marked a critical juncture in the global climate agenda, with the formal approval of the provisional agenda, setting the stage for negotiations ahead of COP 30 in Brazil.

SB 62 brought together country delegates, observers, and institutions to advance technical discussions across adaptation, finance, and systems-level transformation. As part of its growing role in multilateral climate engagement, IOFS contributed to key sessions that directly align with its mission to promote food security through climate-resilient agriculture across OIC Member States. The IOFS was represented by Project Manager Ms. Makpal Bulatova who participated in the High-Level Sessions and Workshops, including:

·        “Capacity-Building for Holistic Investment Strategies, Bankable Projects, and Stakeholder Engagement to Support NDCs and NAPs”
·        “Roadmap to Mission 1.5 Dialogue: Connecting Stakeholders, Resources, and Mechanisms for Systemic Climate Action”
·        “Genetic Resources for Climate-Resilient Agrifood Systems” by Crop Trust
·        Workshop on “Systematic and Holistic Approaches to Climate Action in Agriculture, Food Systems, and Food Security”
·        COP 30 Presidency Logistics Briefing
·        IOFS Engagement in the Global Flagship Initiative on Food Security

A highlight of IOFS’s participation was the high-level event “Accelerating Resilient Food Systems Through Multilateral Leadership and Local Action”, hosted by the Global Flagship Initiative for Food Security at the Crop Trust. This initiative, launched at UNCCD COP 16, aims to transform food systems in dryland regions through inclusive, scalable, and climate-resilient approaches. IOFS is a member of this Flagship Initiative, and is committed to supporting its implementation through regional cooperation, technical expertise, and policy integration. The dialogue convened ministers, high-level officials, youth leaders, civil society, and international partners to exchange national experiences and explore joint actions.

The 62nd session of the Subsidiary Bodies is a vital platform in the UNFCCC process, and IOFS’s participation reaffirms its role in shaping climate-smart agrifood systems in the OIC geography. As the international community accelerates efforts to meet the targets of the Paris Agreement, IOFS remains committed to facilitating science-based policies, building regional cooperation, and mobilizing climate finance to support sustainable agricultural transformation in its Member States.
