Rabat, Morocco – 14–16 May 2025 - The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) participated in the ICARDA Strategic Dialogue and 50th Anniversary Celebrations held in Rabat and at the Marchouch Research Station, Morocco. IOFS was represented by Ms. Makpal Bulatova, Project Manager for Wheat Breeding Initiatives, who joined esteemed partners and experts in a two-day event dedicated to scientific innovation and climate-resilient agriculture.
Organized under the theme “Science in Action – Innovation for Resilient Agriculture”, the event showcased ICARDA’s key scientific advancements in crop improvement, seed systems, biodiversity, and sustainable farming. A central feature of the Field Day on 15 May was the demonstration of the Speed Breeding Platform, a cutting-edge approach enabling the rapid development of climate-resilient wheat and barley varieties—a priority area for IOFS under its Wheat Breeding Initiatives. The facility is expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating breeding cycles and responding to the challenges of food insecurity and climate change across the CWANA region.
IOFS and ICARDA share a strategic partnership focused on speed breeding, gene bank collaboration, and the development of wheat and barley across North Africa and other OIC regions. Their joint efforts aim to strengthen seed systems, promote climate-resilient varieties, and build national capacities for sustainable cereal production.
