IOFS-IsDB co-organized Regional Training on Water Management concludes in Astana

Astana, Kazakhstan — 24 October 2025 — The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan successfully concluded the Regional Training on Governance and Digital Solutions for Sustainable Irrigation and Water Management, held on 22–24 October 2025 in Astana.

The three-day programme gathered over 80 specialists and policymakers from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Türkiye, as well as representatives from international institutions including ICARDA, IWMI, and senior consultancy groups in the water sector.

Participants engaged in in-depth sessions on institutional water governance, digital platforms for irrigation management, and policy instruments for efficient water use, with case studies showcasing Türkiye’s Water Policy and SUTEM platform and Uzbekistan’s SRBISA systems.

Country presentations from six participating nations highlighted national innovations and strategies for integrating smart technologies into water governance frameworks.

The training concluded with the adoption of key recommendations to:

  • Strengthen institutional capacities for integrated water resource management;
  • Promote regional knowledge exchange and joint innovation initiatives;
  • Encourage the use of digital and weather-smart irrigation tools;
  • Support the execution of effective water policy solutions.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Ismail Abdelhamid, Director of the IOFS Projects Department, reaffirmed IOFS’s commitment to supporting Member States in building water-secure and climate-resilient agrifood systems, in line with IOFS Strategic Vision 2031 and Kazakhstan’s national priorities on water and food security.

The Regional Training marked another milestone in IOFS’s mission to advance innovation, capacity-building, and sustainable water management across the Islamic world.
