IOFS Hosts Iftar Dinner Promoting Unity and Cooperation

Astana, Kazakhstan – March 17, 2025 – The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) hosted an Iftar Dinner on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, bringing together distinguished guests from diplomatic missions, international organizations, government and parliament representatives.

The event was graced by the presence of H.E. Dr. Kunsulu Zakariya, Adviser to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Science and Innovation, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Akan Rakhmetullin, Deputy of the Senate of Parliament Mrs. Olga Bulavkina, Deputy of the Mazhilis of Parliament Mr. Aidos Sarym, Constitutional Judge Mr. Yerkin Ongarbayev, Ambassadors and Heads of Missions from Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and representatives of international organizations.

The evening commenced with a Quran recitation by Mr. Yerbolat Zhusipov, Representative of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Astana and Chief Imam, setting a spiritual tone for the gathering.

In his welcoming address, H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of IOFS, highlighted the significance of Ramadan as a time of compassion, solidarity, and reflection. He underscored IOFS’s dedication to advancing food security and sustainable agricultural development across the OIC Member States to which he delightfully announced that the Republic of Kazakhstan would generously host the IOFS 7th General Assembly in Astana on 01-02 July 2025 and encouraged them to attend and contribute for its successful holding. Ambassador Aryn also emphasized that IOFS, comprising 41 Member States, has prioritized strategic initiatives, including gene banks, halal food ecosystems, climate resilience, and agricultural technology. He also referenced key projects such as the Afghanistan Food Security Programme, Africa Food Security Initiative, and the "Flour for Humanity" initiative for Gaza, showcasing the organization's global impact.

Following the Director General’s address, as a gesture of respect and appreciation to the hosting state of Kazakhstan, a musical performance featuring the traditional Kazakh instrument, the dombra, was held to celebrate the upcoming Nauryz, a cherished cultural festivity symbolizing renewal and unity.

The Iftar Dinner served as a platform for strengthening diplomatic relations, enhancing cultural understanding, and reinforcing IOFS’s commitment to promoting food security and sustainable development across its member states.
