IOFS Highlights AgriTech Development to Enhance Agrifood System Resilience and Food Security during World Investment Forum
17 October 2023

On 17 October 2023, during the panel discussion on Technology and Innovation at the World Investment Forum in Abhu Dhabi, Professor Dr.Zulfiqar Ali, Director of Programs and Projects of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, shared that Organization is actively promoting agritech development to enhance agrifood system resilience and food security in its member countries. Under programs like Bio & Agritech development, IOFS focuses on plant architecture innovations and genetic solutions. These advancements, such as plants with traits for self-irrigation, more efficient photosynthesis, and increased water-use efficiency, contribute to the resilience of agrifood systems.

Additionally, the Director of Programs and Projects stressed that IOFS supports microbial genetic solutions, such as biofertilizers and biopesticides, which enhance soil health and crop yields. Advanced agritech plays a significant role, including technologies like outdoor artificial lighting and AI-enabled software for crop monitoring.

Moreover, IOFS advocates for sustainable practices like organic farming and agrivoltaics, emphasizing knowledge sharing, collaboration, and comprehensive water-centric policies. The organization actively works with governments to optimize water usage and leverage technology for sustainable agriculture, all aligned with the recommendations of the 2nd High-Level Forum held in Doha, Qatar, on October 2, 2023.
