IOFS Expands Global Engagement on Rio Synergies and Food Security Ahead of the 2026 Triple COP Process
18 May 2026

Antalya, Republic of Türkiye | 13–15 May 2026 – Upon the designation of H. E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, Chief Multilateral Relations Officer, represented the IOFS Secretariat at the Strategic Antalya Dialogue on “Land Restoration as a Systems Solution: A Strategic Dialogue in the Lead-up to UNFCCC COP31”, held in Antalya, Republic of Türkiye.

The high-level event brought together representatives of the Rio Convention Presidencies, G20 Members, United Nations agencies, regional organizations and climate stakeholders to advance discussions on strengthening synergies among the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), with particular focus on climate action, biodiversity conservation, land restoration and integrated national planning ahead of the 2026 Triple COP process.

During the event, the IOFS representative established and strengthened contacts with key stakeholders engaged in the Rio Synergies process, including representatives of the host country in its capacity as incoming UNFCCC COP31 Presidency, G20 Members, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the African Union, UNCCD coordination mechanisms, and Climate Champions.

These exchanges are of strategic importance for the IOFS as the Organisation continues to position food security, sustainable agriculture, land restoration and resilience-building within the broader climate and environmental agenda of the OIC Member States. The dialogue also provided a valuable platform for identifying avenues of cooperation and engagement ahead of the 2026 Triple COP cycle, namely UNCCD COP17 in Mongolia, CBD COP17 in Armenia, and UNFCCC COP31 in Antalya.
