On 11 February 2026, H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Yerlan Nyssanbayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at the House of Ministries in Astana.
During the meeting, Ambassador Berik Aryn presented an overview of IOFS’s strategic priorities, highlighting the Organization’s work in advancing climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable natural resource management, and capacity building across Member States. Ambassador Aryn emphasized IOFS’s efforts to promote climate-smart practices, strengthen the adaptive capacity of farming communities, and enhance the resilience of food systems through regional cooperation and technical exchange.
Minister Nyssanbayev in turn, personally extended an official invitation to the Director General to participate in the upcoming Regional Climate Summit, scheduled to take place in Astana in April. Ambassador Berik Aryn expressed his sincere appreciation for the invitation and confirmed IOFS’s readiness to make a substantive contribution to the Summit’s programme. In this context, IOFS presented its initial proposals for engagement, focusing on capacity building for climate adaptation in agriculture, regional cooperation platforms, and policy dialogue on sustainable food systems.
Particular attention was also given to potential cooperation within the framework of the Green Climate Fund. Minister Nyssanbayev expressed the Ministry’s full readiness to provide comprehensive support and coordination toward establishing tripartite cooperation in the implementation of climate-related initiatives relevant to Kazakhstan.
In conclusion of the meeting, the parties noted the strong alignment between the mandates of IOFS and the Ministry, underscoring that climate resilience is a fundamental pillar of long-term food security. Both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in developing practical cooperation mechanisms aimed at strengthening climate resilience in the agricultural sector, promoting sustainable environmental management, and enhancing the food security of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
