IOFS Director General Meets TURKPA Secretary General to Strengthen Cooperation on Food Security and Sustainable Development

Astana, Kazakhstan - 17 October 2025 - The Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, received H.E. Ambassador Ramil Hasan, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), at the IOFS Headquarters in Astana to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two organizations in food security and sustainable agriculture, including through inter-parliamentary collaboration.

Ambassador Aryn congratulated Ambassador Hasan on his election as TURKPA Secretary General, commending his leadership and continued contributions to parliamentary diplomacy and regional integration among Turkic States. He noted that the visit, taking place at the outset of Ambassador Hasan’s new mandate, reflects the shared vision of both institutions to foster dialogue, policy coherence, and sustainable development across common Member States.

During the meeting, the IOFS Director General briefed the TURKPA delegation on the Organization’s mission, structure, and key programmes, including the Afghanistan Food Security Programme, the Africa Food Security Initiative, and the OIC Strategic Plan for Food Security.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of deepening IOFS–TURKPA collaboration, recognizing their shared Member States and complementary objectives. They agreed to explore joint initiatives in food security governance, agricultural legislation, and sustainable rural development.

Special emphasis was placed on empowering women, youth, and parliamentarians in the agricultural sector, acknowledging their vital role in building resilient food systems. TURKPA’s active Women and Youth Groups were recognized as valuable platforms for inclusive policymaking and regional engagement.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to advancing cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between IOFS and TURKPA in 2021, and to jointly pursue initiatives that strengthen regional food security and sustainability.
