Astana, Kazakhstan - 23 April 2026 — On 23 April 2026, H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security, held a meeting with H.E. Ambassador Balázs Hendrich, Chair of the Board of the Drought Prevention Institute and Head of the Representation Office of the Organization of Turkic States in Hungary, on the sidelines of the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 in Astana.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on strengthening cooperation in the areas of drought resilience, sustainable agriculture, and water-related challenges affecting vulnerable regions. Ambassador Aryn highlighted the importance of Hungary’s initiative in establishing the Drought Prevention Institute as a practical platform for promoting innovation, partnership, and knowledge-sharing in response to drought and climate-related pressures.
Both sides noted the strong complementarity between the work of IOFS and the Drought Prevention Institute, particularly in supporting capacity-building, experience-sharing, and practical solutions for member states facing growing environmental and food security challenges. They also expressed interest in exploring future cooperation in areas that contribute to resilience, sustainability, and improved livelihoods across affected regions.
Ambassador Aryn reaffirmed IOFS’s commitment to advancing partnerships that support sustainable food systems and climate resilience across its member states, while Ambassador Hendrich underlined the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation with relevant international partners in addressing drought-related risks.
