IOFS Director General Leads Delegation on First Day of Official Visit to Vienna

Vienna, 22 June 2026 — H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), led the IOFS delegation on the first day of its official visit to Vienna, Austria, holding a series of high-level engagements with key international partners in the areas of food security, science, and sustainable development.

The Director General began the day with an extended technical exchange with Dr. Dongxin Feng, Director of the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture, together with the Centres Sub-programme Leaders and technical teams. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss practical avenues for cooperation between IOFS and the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre in support of food security priorities across OIC Member States, with particular focus on strengthening resilience, improving agricultural productivity, and advancing capacity-building initiatives.

Later in the day, Ambassador Aryn held a meeting with Dr. Najat Mokhtar, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications of the IAEA. The discussions focused on the strategic importance of strengthening institutional cooperation between IOFS and the IAEA, as well as on the shared commitment of both organisations to support Member States through practical, science-based solutions addressing food security challenges.

On the sidelines of the UNIDO-organized event, Private Sector-Led Industrial Recovery in the Syrian Arab Republic, the State of Palestine and Sudan”, the Director General also held a discussion with H.E. Mr. Gerd Müller, Director General of UNIDO, during which the two sides discussed ways and means to establish a strong and sustainable partnership between the two organisations. Ambassador Aryn later had an extended meeting with Mrs. Providence Mavubi, Director of the Division of Agribusiness and Infrastructure Development, and her team, to exchange views on concrete areas of future cooperation, particularly in support of agro-industrial development, value chains, and joint initiatives in IOFS Member States.

The first day of the visit reaffirmed IOFS’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with specialized international organisations and advancing coordinated, result-oriented cooperation in support of sustainable food security across the OIC region.
