IOFS Director General Begins Official Visit to the State of Libya
18 May 2026

TRIPOLI, May 17, 2026 – H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), began an official two-day visit to Libya on May 17, leading a high-level delegation from the organisation. The visit reflects the value IOFS places on its partnership with the State of Libya, and underscores the shared commitment to advancing food security, agricultural development, and national resilience.

The visit opened with a meeting at the National Council for Economic and Social Development Board of Libya’s Government of National Unity, hosted by Dr. Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, Director General of the Board. The meeting was followed by a technical session bringing together representatives of relevant Libyan governmental institutions.

The discussions focused on advancing the operationalization of Libya’s National Food Security Strategy, including the implementation of the Food Basket Analysis and the Design of the Food Security Emergency Response Action Plan.

Ambassador Aryn underlined that this initiative reflects the joint commitment of IOFS and the State of Libya to building an integrated national food security system, capable of responding to current challenges with efficiency and effectiveness. He noted that the initiative translates strategic vision into practical, nationally-owned tools that support the monitoring of food conditions, evidence-based policy analysis, and data-driven interventions, providing a concrete model for empowering national capacities and equipping Libyan institutions with operational instruments ready for direct application.

The delegation also met with Dr. Mohammed Al-Bashir Mohammed Al-Turki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Wealth of the Government of National Unity, to discuss expanding technical cooperation in agricultural development and strengthening the long-standing partnership between the IOFS and Libya’s agricultural sector.

The programme continued with meetings at Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, attended by Mr. Khairi Ezzeddine Al-Alem, Director of the Islamic Affairs Department, and Mr. Sofiane Belkhir, Director of the International Organisations Department. Both sides discussed the institutional framework of cooperation between IOFS and the State of Libya and exchanged views on strengthening Libya's engagement in the Organisation’s programmes and strategic initiatives within the OIC framework.

The first day of the visit concluded with talks at the Libyan Export Development Authority (LEDA), attended by Mr. Salah Otman Fattah, Presidential Advisor, in the presence of senior members of the LEDA team. Discussions focused on cooperation in agricultural trade and food value-chain dimensions, in line with IOFS’s mandate to promote sustainable food systems across OIC Member States.
