Astana, Kazakhstan - 25 April 2025 – The Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), H.E. Berik Aryn, took part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference titled “The Countries of the East in the Context of Modern International Relations: Problems and New Requirements for Research”, held at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU) in Astana.

The conference brought together prominent academics, diplomats, and representatives of international organizations to explore the evolving role of Eastern countries in shaping the global order, and to examine the academic and policy implications of emerging challenges. The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In his address, H.E. Berik Aryn emphasized the enduring centrality of the East in global civilization — past and present — and highlighted the need for collaboration to understand its growing influence in a multipolar world. Mr. Aryn reflected on the East’s enduring contributions to trade, diplomacy, science, and culture.
The Director General also presented the mission and activities of IOFS, focused on building food system resilience and promoting sustainable development. He noted that food security today is not only a developmental priority but also a pillar of peace and strategic cooperation.
IOFS’s flagship programs — such as Flour for Humanity, regional monitoring platforms, and agri-tech training initiatives — were highlighted as examples of practical engagement that benefit both member states and broader regions, particularly during times of crisis.
Mr. Aryn emphasized the importance of closer collaboration between IOFS and the academic community, inviting institutions such as ENU to partner on research, policy analysis, and capacity building. He praised ENU as an academic platform that bridges East and West, rooted in the philosophical legacy of Lev Gumilyov and committed to fostering intercivilizational dialogue.
Concluding his address, Mr. Aryn wished continued success to ENU’s faculty, students, and alumni, and expressed hope that the knowledge produced within its halls would continue to serve peace, justice, and the future of the East.
