IOFS DG Meets Ambassador of Libya to Advance Bilateral Cooperation

Astana, Kazakhstan | 28 September 2026 – H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), received H.E. Mr. Alaaddin Lehwaik, Ambassador of the State of Libya to the Republic of Kazakhstan, at the IOFS Headquarters in Astana. The Director General welcomed the Ambassador and expressed his appreciation for Libya's continued engagement with the IOFS. During the meeting, Ambassador Aryn reflected on the outcomes of his official mission to Libya in May 2026, noting that the visit had further strengthened the partnership between the IOFS and Libyan institutions and created a solid foundation for advancing joint initiatives. The Director General also highlighted the successful implementation of two key projects in Libya, implemented by the IOFS with the support from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB): the Government Framework for Food Security Emergency Response in Libya and the Methodological Framework for Designing a Healthy Food Basket Based on the Cost of a Healthy Diet. Particular attention was given to priority areas of future collaboration, including the implementation of Libya's National Food Security Strategy, wheat production and improved seed systems, sustainable water resources management and modern irrigation technologies, agricultural investment, and capacity-building programmes. The parties also discussed opportunities to strengthen technical cooperation in the application of geospatial technologies and satellite-based solutions for groundwater mapping, water resources assessment, and sustainable agricultural management. Both sides expressed their commitment to maintaining close dialogue and advancing practical initiatives in support of sustainable agricultural development and food security in Libya.
