IOFS Delegation holds High-level Meeting in Budapest to Advance Cooperation on Food Security and Drought Resilience

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY – 25 June 2026 – H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), held a productive meeting with H.E. Ambassador Balázs Hendrich, Chair of the Board of the Drought Prevention Institute (DPI) and Head of the Representation Office of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Budapest.

The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between IOFS, DPI, and the OTS Representation Office in the areas of food security, water management, climate resilience, and sustainable agricultural development, particularly across Central Asia and the broader OIC region.

During the exchange, Director General highlighted IOFS’s growing role as the specialized institution of the OIC dedicated to food security, while presenting the organization’s flagship initiatives and ongoing programmes supporting Member States in the fields of agricultural resilience, sustainable resource management, humanitarian response, and innovation.

Ambassadors Aryn and Hendrich explored opportunities for practical cooperation, including joint initiatives on drought resilience, water-use efficiency, capacity-building programmes, and pilot projects aimed at supporting sustainable agriculture and addressing climate-related challenges in vulnerable regions. Discussions also emphasized the importance of technical cooperation, expert exchanges, and coordinated engagement within international platforms focused on food security, climate action, and land restoration.

Both sides further agreed to advance institutional cooperation through the preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at establishing a project-based partnership framework and facilitating the implementation of joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest.

The meeting underscored the strategic importance of strengthening collaboration between IOFS and institutions within the Turkic region, while recognizing Hungary’s growing role as a platform for dialogue, expertise provider, and cooperation on water governance, agricultural innovation, and sustainable development.

Director General reaffirmed IOFS’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships and advancing collaborative initiatives with International Institutions that contribute to resilient food systems, sustainable agriculture, and enhanced food security for Member States.
