The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) convened a Regional Round Table on Food Loss and Waste Management in the OIC Arab Member States in Meknes, Kingdom of Morocco, from 15 to 17 July 2026. The event was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), and graciously hosted by the National School of Agriculture of Meknes (ENAM).
Opening addresses were delivered by Prof. Said Amiri, Director of the National School of Agriculture of Meknes; Mrs. Imane Louati, representing the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests of the Kingdom of Morocco; Dr. Abdelaziz Hajjaji, representing the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS); and Dr. Ali Musa Eissa, representing the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD).
The three-day programme comprised scientific and technical sessions examining the latest data and trends on food loss and waste, national policy frameworks, innovative post-harvest solutions, food value chains, circular economy approaches, and the IOFS Food Loss and Waste Index.
Representatives from Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Yemen delivered country presentations highlighting national experiences, policy measures, and practical initiatives aimed at reducing food loss and waste.
The programme concluded with a technical field visit to an agri-food processing facility, where participants observed best practices in cold storage infrastructure, post-harvest management, quality grading, by-product valorization, and other measures to reduce food loss and waste across agri-food value chains.
