Astana, Kazakhstan – 28 April 2026 – The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), in cooperation with national partners, successfully concluded the Regional Technical Workshop on “Digital Transformation and the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Agricultural Governance” held on 27–28 April 2026 in Astana.
Organized within the framework of IOFS efforts to support Member States in strengthening food security through capacity development, knowledge exchange, and the adoption of modern technologies, the workshop served as a regional platform for discussing practical digital solutions for the agricultural sector.
The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye, the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary, the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI), and Astana IT University, as well as international experts and relevant national institutions.
Discussions focused on applied aspects of digital agricultural governance, including satellite monitoring of agricultural land, digital subsidy management systems, farmer support platforms, and digital identification and traceability systems for livestock. Particular attention was given to the practical experience of the Republic of Türkiye in developing integrated digital agricultural systems and its relevance for ongoing modernization efforts in Kazakhstan.
International experts, including representatives of Wageningen University & Research, also shared global perspectives on the growing role of artificial intelligence, smart systems, and data-driven decision making in agricultural governance.
Participants exchanged views on institutional, technical, and regulatory considerations for integrating digital technologies into national agricultural systems, while identifying priority directions for future development in line with Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial reforms and broader regional needs.
The workshop provided an important professional platform for practical exchange and contributed to strengthening regional institutional dialogue on advancing more efficient, transparent, and resilient agricultural governance through digital transformation.
