Ankara, Turkiye- On 23 May 2024, The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) and the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) held a meeting aimed at strengthening mutual cooperation in agriculture development and food security. The focus of the meeting was on leveraging statistical data and economic analysis to support these critical areas among the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.
At the instruction of the Director General of IOFS, H.E. Amb. Berik Aryn, the Director of the Programs and Projects Department of IOFS, Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali engaged in productive discussions with SESRIC Directors, including Dr. Nenden O. Shanty, Director of Training; Mr. Mazhar Hussain, Director of Economic Affairs; Mr. Onur Ç., Director of Statistics; and Ms. Semiha A. Inan. This gathering highlighted the importance of collaboration and the use of robust statistical data to enhance agricultural development and food security initiatives.
The discussions covered a range of topics, including joint activities within the Annual Coordination Meeting of the OIC Institutions (ACMOI) matrix, the alignment of the draft OIC strategic plan for food security among member states in the Arab, African, and Asian regions, and enhanced cooperation in accessing and utilizing statistical data on agriculture and food security. It was agreed to implement as many activities as possible from the ACMOI matrix.
Furthermore, in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and SESRIC, IOFS will spearhead consultative sessions to align the draft strategic plan mandated by the 9th Ministerial Conference on Food Security and Agricultural Development (MCFSAD). This initiative underscores the commitment to a cohesive and strategic approach to food security across diverse regions.
To conclude, IOFS is dedicated to fostering sustainable agricultural development and ensuring food security through collaboration with strategic partners like SESRIC. This meeting highlighted the importance of joint efforts and the effective use of statistical data and economic analysis, paving the way for a more resilient and food-secure future for all member states.
