Astana, Kazakhstan – 24 April 2026 – The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) and the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in food security, sustainable agriculture, and rural development.
The MoU was signed by H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of IOFS, and H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of OTS, on the margins of the Regional Ecological Summit in Astana.
The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in key areas, including sustainable agriculture, food security, biotechnology, and the efficient use of land and water resources. It also provides for the exchange of knowledge and best practices, as well as joint initiatives, capacity-building, and research cooperation.
Both organisations will work together to strengthen institutional cooperation through information exchange, joint activities, and coordinated efforts to address shared challenges such as climate change, land degradation, and water scarcity.
Speaking at the signing, Ambassador Berik Aryn emphasized the importance of expanding partnerships to advance resilient and sustainable food systems, while Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev highlighted the value of closer cooperation in addressing environmental and food security challenges.
The MoU marks an important step in strengthening regional cooperation and advancing coordinated approaches to food security and sustainable development across the Turkic region.
