IOFS and OIC Consult on Advancing Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation for Food Security

Astana, Kazakhstan – 24 April 2026 – H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), received in his Office in Astana H.E. Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher, Assistant Secretary General for Science and Technology at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation under the OIC Science, Technology and Innovation Agenda, with particular emphasis on advancing food security through innovation, sustainable water management, and modern agricultural solutions. The Director General reaffirmed IOFS’s strong commitment to supporting science-driven approaches and underscored the importance of placing sustainable agriculture, climate-smart technologies, and resilient agri-food systems at the core of future STI priorities.

The two sides also exchanged views on how the IOFS would be actively involved in the preparation of the successor of the current OIC STI Agenda 2026 towards featuring practical beanchmarks in advancing the agendas of food security, agricultural development and agrifood systems transformation in the OIC geography.

The meeting was also an opportunity for Ambassador Aryn to brief the distinguished guest on IOFS’s ongoing programmes in areas such as digital solutions for water management, value chain development, and national food security strategies, emphasizing their role in delivering practical, scalable solutions across Member States.
