Rabat, Morocco – 14 May 2025 – The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) marked a pivotal moment in its engagement across Africa through high-level consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco.
His Excellency Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of IOFS, was received by His Excellency Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Rabat. Also in attendance was Her Excellency Ms. Saulekul Sailaukyzy, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Morocco, further underscoring the strategic importance of the dialogue.
This meeting is part of broader efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and OIC-affiliated institutions in strategic areas such as food security, sustainable development, and the resilience of agricultural systems in member countries. Discussions focused on advancing joint action, with an emphasis on supporting African countries—particularly OIC Member States—in building more robust and climate-resilient food systems.
Minister Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering commitment to active solidarity with Islamic countries, especially in addressing urgent challenges related to food sovereignty and nutrition. He emphasized that this commitment is rooted in the vision and leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who continues to position Morocco as a responsible and forward-looking partner on the African continent.
Ambassador Aryn, for his part, commended Morocco’s exemplary leadership in sustainable agriculture. He praised the Kingdom’s achievements under the Green Morocco Plan and its successor, the “Generation Green” strategy, which has become a model of integrated agricultural development. He expressed IOFS’s strong desire to see Morocco assume an even greater role within the Organization as a regional anchor in knowledge-sharing and innovation for food security.
The two sides exchanged views on establishing triangular cooperation frameworks, wherein Morocco, IOFS, and international development partners could jointly implement agricultural development projects across Africa. Such collaboration would leverage Morocco’s industrial and technical expertise—particularly in the fertilizer sector—IOFS’s intergovernmental coordination role, and the financial and institutional support of global partners.
The dialogue also explored opportunities to launch joint research programs, share best practices, and deepen Morocco’s engagement in IOFS-led capacity building and technical assistance activities, including training for farmers and national institutions across OIC Member States.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to translate these discussions into concrete joint initiatives that support sustainable food systems and contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
