Astana, Kazakhstan | 28 September 2026 – The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) and JSC National Company "Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary" (KGS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in the application of space technologies and geospatial solutions to support sustainable agriculture and food security across OIC Member States.
The Memorandum was signed by H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the IOFS, and Mr. Kaiyrzhan Kozhayev, Chairman of the Board of the KGS, during a meeting held at the company's headquarters in Astana.
The partnership establishes a framework for collaboration in areas including Earth observation, satellite-based monitoring, geospatial analysis, precision agriculture, natural resource management and the exchange of technical knowledge and expertise.
During the meeting, the parties discussed practical areas for future cooperation, with particular emphasis on launching a pilot initiative based on existing technologies. Among the options considered were groundwater mapping, agricultural drought monitoring, irrigation and crop assessment, pasture and locust monitoring. The proposed pilot projects are intended to demonstrate the practical application of satellite technologies in supporting evidence-based decision-making and strengthening food security.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General noted that the integration of advanced geospatial technologies into agricultural planning represents an important opportunity to enhance resilience, improve resource efficiency across OIC Member States.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close collaboration and translating the Memorandum into practical initiatives that support innovation and sustainable agricultural development.
