The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), in cooperation with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), organized the side event “AI for Resilient Water-Food Systems” on 26 October 2026 during Cairo Water Week 2026, held in Cairo, Egypt from 25 to 29 October 2026.

IOFS was represented by Dr. Ismail Abdelhamid, Director of the Projects Department, who opened the side event and moderated the presentations and discussions. The event brought together representatives of government institutions and international research organizations to discuss the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies in addressing water scarcity and improving agricultural water management.

On the sidelines of Cairo Water Week, Dr. Abdelhamid held bilateral discussions with H.E. Mr. Shavkat Khamraev, Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on potential cooperation in agricultural water management, water-saving technologies and irrigation digitalization.

Dr. Abdelhamid also held a meeting with Dr. Nizar Haddad, Director General of ICARDA, and the ICARDA technical team. The discussions focused on activating the existing Memorandum of Understanding between IOFS and ICARDA through practical projects.

IOFS participation in Cairo Water Week 2026 further strengthened engagement with international partners and opened new avenues for joint initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity, water-use efficiency, and food security across OIC Member States.
