IOFS and Iran’s AREEO Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Agricultural Cooperation
22 October 2026

Astana, 22 October 2026 — H. E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), welcomed at the IOFS Headquarters in Astana a high-level Iranian delegation led by H. E. Prof. Gholamreza Golmohammadi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture-Jahad and President of Iran’s Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), accompanied by H. E. Mr. Mahmoud Safari Farkhud, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Kazakhstan, for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.

The visit strengthened institutional dialogue and advanced cooperation between IOFS and AREEO after the Director General was welcomed at the latter’s headquarters in Tehran in March 2025, where, inter alia, the two sides agreed to institutionalise bilateral cooperation through an MoU.

In the given context, the signing of the Memorandum marks an important milestone in establishing a formal framework for cooperation between the two Parties. The partnership will facilitate the exchange of agricultural and scientific expertise, as well as the sharing of best practices in plant protection, livestock development, and biotechnology.

The participation of representatives from Iran's Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute and the Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute underscored the Iranian delegation's strong scientific and technical capacity, including valuable experience in developing knowledge hub platforms and advancing biotechnology applications to ensure food security.

The visit reaffirmed the importance of cooperation among OIC Member States in advancing food security, strengthening agricultural capacities and fostering partnerships that can contribute to more resilient and sustainable agri-food systems.

Through this agreement, the IOFS and AREEO will now work on a Joint Action Plan, which is expected to contain practical avenues of collaboration and identified opportunities for future joint engagement.
