Astana, Kazakhstan - 7 April 2026 – Upon the instructions of His Excellency Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation of Food Security (IOFS), a delegation from the Organization visited the premises of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, to initiate discussions on the implementation modalities of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two Institutions on 6 February 2026.
The IOFS delegation comprised Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, Chief Multilateral Relations Officer; Dr. Abdelaziz Hajjaji, Programme Manager; and Mr. Almatkhan Kali, Protocol. The IFAS Executive Committee was represented by Mr. Serik Bekmaganbetov, Deputy Chairman; Mr. Yerlan Auezbekov, Chief Specialist of the General Department; and Ms. Gauhar Meldebekova, Specialist of the Information and Analytical Department.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening collaboration in areas related to water resource management, environmental sustainability, and regional food security, particularly in the Aral Sea basin, as stated in the referenced MoU.
It is worth mentioning that the meeting marks an important step toward translating the IOFS–IFAS partnership into concrete actions, contributing to sustainable water management and enhanced resilience across the Central Asian region.
