IOFS and GGGI Strengthen Strategic Partnership with Bilateral Meeting and MoU Signing
30 October 2025

Seoul, South Korea – During his visit to Seoul to participate in the Global Green Growth Week 2025, H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), held high-level discussions with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) to advance climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable food security across OIC Member States.

Ambassador Aryn held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Ban Ki-moon, President of the Global Green Growth Institute, accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Nurgali Arystanov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Korea. During the meeting, H.E. Ban Ki-moon warmly recalled his visits to Kazakhstan and his meetings with H.E. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, emphasizing Astana’s instrumental role in establishing IOFS as a timely and strategically important initiative. Ambassador Aryn expressed his gratitude to Mr. Ban Ki-moon for his vision and leadership, highlighting IOFS’s active engagement at Global Green Growth Week 2025. Both leaders underscored the shared commitment to strengthening climate-resilient food systems across the OIC region and recognized the significant potential for scaling nature-based solutions, climate-smart agriculture, and capacity-building programs.

On 30 October, H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn and Dr. Sang-Hyup Kim, Director General of the Global Green Growth Institute, held a meeting at GGGI Headquarters following the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.

The MoU establishes a comprehensive framework for joint technical and policy initiatives, capacity-building programmes, and the mobilisation of financial resources to advance green growth across OIC Member States. During the meeting, both leaders discussed practical steps to implement the agreement, focusing on sustainable agricultural development, water resource management, and smart agriculture initiatives. They agreed to collaborate closely on resilience-focused programmes and to develop a detailed action plan to operationalise the objectives outlined in the MoU.

The partnership aligns with GGGI’s global commitment to sustainable development through green growth solutions. Both organisations aim to foster innovation in areas such as climate finance, sustainable landscapes, and green agriculture, ensuring that their joint efforts strengthen food security while promoting long-term environmental sustainability.

With the MoU in place, IOFS and GGGI will now expand their joint efforts to include new projects aimed at improving agricultural productivity, enhancing food systems’ resilience, and addressing urgent climate adaptation needs. Additionally, the partnership will support the development of capacity-building initiatives to equip OIC Member States with the tools to implement effective, climate-resilient food systems.
