Astana, Kazakhstan - 6 February 2026 – The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) and the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (EC IFAS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance institutional cooperation in addressing critical challenges related to food and water security, sustainable agriculture, rural development, and environmental protection.
The MoU was signed by H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of IOFS, and H.E. Ambassador Askhat Orazbay, Chairman of EC IFAS, marking an important step toward strengthening coordinated efforts in the Aral Sea region and other water-stressed areas.
Under the Memorandum, the two organizations agreed to collaborate on the implementation of joint programmes and projects focused on integrated water and land resource management, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience. Cooperation will include initiatives aimed at improving water use efficiency, irrigation and water governance, strengthening rural livelihoods, and addressing environmental degradation such as desertification, deforestation, soil erosion, salinity, and water scarcity. The partnership also seeks to contribute to poverty reduction in rural areas through impactful, results-oriented interventions.
Both parties emphasized the importance of leveraging their respective convening power to advance progress on shared development priorities, including the promotion of sustainable food systems, responsible water management, and environmental restoration.
This partnership reflects IOFS’s continued commitment to strengthening cooperation with regional and international institutions to promote food and water security, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability across its Member States.
