19 August 2025

The Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, received His Excellency Mr. Mehadji Athmane, Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Republic of Kazakhstan at the IOFS headquarters. The meeting served as a valuable opportunity to exchange views on strengthening cooperation between the IOFS and Algeria in advancing sustainable agriculture and food security across the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) region.

During the meeting, the Director General extended warm congratulations to Ambassador Athmane on his recent appointment and reaffirmed the IOFS’s readiness to support Algeria’s national agricultural priorities. He highlighted the importance of Algeria’s role within the OIC, noting the country’s expertise in areas such as dryland farming, water management, and food systems resilience.

Discussions also reviewed the outcomes of the IOFS mission to Algeria in May 2025, led by H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, which laid the foundation for closer collaboration with Algerian institutions. Ambassador Athmane, in turn, expressed Algeria’s willingness to work closely with the IOFS and underlined his country’s openness to joint initiatives that contribute to strengthening food systems and enhancing resilience. The meeting reaffirmed a shared interest in continuing dialogue on projects that address common challenges.

The two parties decided to maintain regular consultations and explore concrete avenues for partnership, with a shared commitment to translating dialogue into practical cooperation. The IOFS remains committed to working closely with Algeria in fostering practical and impactful solutions for food security, both within the country and across the wider Islamic world.
