In the Spirit of Ramadan: IOFS Supports Families in need in Astana
27 February 2026
Astana - During the holy month of Ramadan, the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) distributed food baskets to families in need at the Al Farabi Mosque in Astana.

The initiative was led by H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of IOFS, with the support of the mosque administration. Organisational arrangements were carried out in coordination with the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan, which provided lists of beneficiary families.
The food baskets, prepared by IOFS, included essential staple items for preparing meals during Ramadan. The initiative aimed to support vulnerable households and ease their daily burden during the fasting period. IOFS also expresses its appreciation to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its participation in this initiative and for its generous contribution of dates to the beneficiary families.

Commenting on the initiative, Ambassador Berik Aryn stated:

“Ramadan reminds us that food is not only a basic necessity, but a shared responsibility. Supporting families in our host city is both a duty and privilege for IOFS.”

Beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the support, noting that it would help ease their daily concerns and allow them to observe Ramadan with greater peace of mind, focusing on the spiritual significance of the holy month.

As an international organization headquartered in Astana, IOFS continues to actively contribute to social and humanitarian initiatives in Kazakhstan, alongside its broader mission to strengthen food security across its Member States. The Organisation is also implementing a range of humanitarian programmes, including the Afghanistan Food Security Programme and ongoing initiatives to support vulnerable populations affected by crises, including in Gaza.

The initiative reflects IOFS’s continued commitment to the principles of compassion, solidarity, and ensuring access to food for all.
