October 31, 2023 — In representation of His Excellency Dr. Dr. Masoud Almarri, the Caretaker Director General of the Islamic Organization of Food Security (IOFS), an IOFS delegation composed of Prof. Zulfiqar Ali , Director of Programmes & Projects Department, Mr. Abdula Manafi Mutualo, Advisor at the Coordination & Cooperation Department, and Ms. Mathaba Agab , Operations Analyst, held consultations with His Excellency Dr. Yaseen Ahmed Abbas, President of the Iraq Red Crescent Society, to explore ways and means for establishing bilateral cooperation.
The meeting served also to welcome the Republic of Iraq as a full-fledged IOFS Member State after it adhered to the Organization’s Statute on the sidelines of the 9th Ministerial Conference on Food Security & Agricultural Development, held on 01-02 October 2023 in Doha, State of Qatar. In such capacity, the two sides exchanged views on potential joint activities that may be implemented in Iraq in near future with the involvement of other relevant Iraqi authorities.
Additionally, the two sides explored ideas on how to join hands to address humanitarian food crisis affecting some of the Member States, including Afghanistan and Palestine.
Finally, it was agreed that once the new IOFS Director General, His Excellency Ambassador Askar Mussinov, assumes Office on 01 January 2024, exchange of official visits would be considered as a mean to institutionalize the bilateral cooperation.
