Astana, 1 July 2026 – The Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) today inaugurated a new institutional tradition by holding its first-ever Flag Hoisting Ceremony at its Headquarters in Astana, honouring the Republic of Azerbaijan's accession as a full-fledged Member State of the Organisation.
The ceremony was hosted by H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, IOFS Director General, and graced with the presence of H.E. Mr. Aghalar Atamoglanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In his remarks, Director General Berik Aryn described Azerbaijan’s accession as an important step in strengthening cooperation on food security, sustainable agriculture, and rural development across the OIC geography. He recalled the signing of the IOFS Statute in Baku in May 2026 by H.E. Mr. Majnun Mammadov, Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, and expressed appreciation to the Government of Azerbaijan for its commitment to the Organization.
On a personal note, Mr. Aryn seized the opportunity to congratulate Ambassador Atamoglanov on being awarded the Order of Dostyq by H.E. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in recognition of his outstanding contribution to advancing the strategic partnership and friendship between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. As the Ambassador's diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan is coming to an end, Director General wished him continued success in his future endeavors.
Looking ahead, Ambassador B. Aryn expressed confidence that Azerbaijan would soon complete the ratification of the IOFS Statute, enabling it to fully exercise its rights and responsibilities as a Member State and contribute actively to the Organisation's programmes and initiatives.
In his remarks, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan expressed confidence that the country’s membership in the IOFS “will make a valuable contribution to enhancing cooperation among the member states in the fields of agriculture, sustainable development and food security.” He also reaffirmed his belief that the Organisation “will remain committed to working closely with its member states and partners to build resilient, inclusive and sustainable food systems across the OIC region.”
As the first country to be welcomed through this new ceremonial tradition, Azerbaijan has secured a special place in the institutional history of the IOFS, opening a new chapter in the Organisation's continued growth and strengthening cooperation among its Member States.
