Astana Times: Almaty Hosts Central Asia Climate Change Conference 2024
30 May 2024

The Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2024) recently convened in Almaty from May 27 to 29, focusing on sustainable water and land management, energy, food security, and environmental sustainability in the face of climate change. With the theme "Bridging Climate Goals with Action: Making Ambitions a Reality," the conference gathered over 400 participants to assess progress, challenges, and gaps in climate commitments, carbon neutrality, green transition, and security. Discussions centered on reducing climate-related disaster risks and enhancing regional cooperation on climate change adaptation. Speakers highlighted the vulnerability of Central Asia's agricultural economy, infrastructure, and population growth to climate change. They emphasized the importance of simultaneous action on green policies, financing, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture. The conference also included a training program for journalists to raise awareness of climate issues. It serves as a preparatory platform for Central Asian governments ahead of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November.
